The Barn - Williamsport Fabric Discount Center is a successful family owned business. Jake Golbitz owned and operated the business from 1950 until his death in 1981. His son, Gary Golbitz, continued his father's legacy and presently operates the business in its original location at 1108 Vine Avenue, Williamsport, Pa. "The Barn," as it is known in the community, was a horse stable on "Millionaire's Row", a prestigious street in Williamsport during the logging boom of the 1890's. Today, the business has grown to be the largest independent fabric retailer/wholesaler in Central Pennsylvania.

The original inventory for the business began through the acquisition of textile remnants from local furniture companies, drapery workrooms and clothing manufactures. Today, they still purchase from furniture companies but mostly from the top names in the upholstery and drapery industries, such as: Ado, Robert Allen, Angel, Barrow, Burch, Carole, Fabricade, Kaslen, Kasmir, Kravet, Lafayette, Meyer, Michaels, Norbar, Stout, Swavelle, and Waverly. The product lines consist of tapestries, brocades, velvets, olefins, chenille, jacquards, cottons, sheer, micro-suedes, sunbrella types and remnants. All products are below market prices.
